If you feel that you are a match after doing your homework. You will apply for the position.
- You will also will post your updated resume to IT job boards online.
- If you have been collaborating with other Oracle DBAs, you can ask them if they know any companies who are hiring.
Here are some examples of Job Boards:
Always carry a copy of your RESUME along with you because you will get called at any time and all the questions they will ask will be based on the contents of your resume.
The recruiters will set up the phone interview/face to face with the company and email you confirmation of the day and time. Be sure that you are available on the scheduled day and time and ensure that you are in a quiet environment free of distractions if its a phone interview.
At the start of the phone screening/face to face interview, the person(s) interviewing will introduce themselves. The interview may last from anywhere between 20-45 minutes.
I have had different experiences with the phone interview in my career, for some, the interviewer was the Lead DBA in the company and his questions were focused on how I performed the tasks I listed on my resume.
For other instances, the person conducting the interview was another recruiter with little or no DBA experience, this person was given a list of questions and the answers they were looking for. Each question was read out clearly and without elaboration.
If you ask for clarification, the interviewer will simply re-read the question verbatim. If you fail to answer a question or asks for clarification, they will just respond “OK”, and move on to the next question.
If you indicate that a question does not make sense, or that the question is ambiguous, the interview is normally terminated at that point.
And based on your answers, a total grade will be assigned with notes and they will provide the information to the hiring managers to review and decide if they want to proceed with the face to face interview.
Make sure that you review your resume and the job requirement details and be prepared to articulate specific work experience to the questions they ask.
Make sure that you have read over the Job description and make sure you can talk about how you have experience with each skill will add value to their company. Be able to give examples and elaborate on your skills. Don’t sell yourself short on any area.
